Urban Legends are widely circulated myths which are often believed to be true by those circulating them. The stories may contain a kernel of truth or the names of actual people but the details are often exaggerated, distorted or falsified to create a sensational or in inflammatory report designed to perpetuate the legend. The advent of the Internet has accelerated the propagation and distribution of Urban Legends.

Christian Urban Legends have a distinctly Christian component. Sometimes they are created by those with a particular theological belief they wish to disseminate but just as often they are deliberate hoaxes designed to expose the gullibility of the those who are targeted to distribute the legend.
